AO1- digging and planting gives a semantic field of physical, earthy tasks the man is doing reflecting a natural lifestyle.
‘singing’ metaphorically expresses his joy when writing to her, highlighting their deeper feelings and introduces a more emotional tone

planting = growing relationship
singing = good point of relationship

Juxtaposition of pain and beauty shows writing to her is worth the discomfort highlighting how much he cares for her

highlights the contrast of their lives: The man is outside with nature doing physical labour and planting while the woman is inside, more urban and writing on her computer
meaning of poem
even though he is a busy farmer, he still makes time for her which shows his deep love for her
free verse + lack of rhyme scheme
Free verse- lack of rhyme scheme showing the natural conversation flow and the strong connection between them.
It also reflects the physical distance between them; life isn’t neat but their bond stays strong
