Lewin's force field analysis theory- forces Flashcards
(10 cards)
what does the theory outline
it outlines the processes of determining which forces drive and which forces resist, a proposed change.
describe driving forces
things that assist and support a change, customers, legislation - you have to, social attitudes- delivery drivers for carparks and things.
describing restraining forces
these work against the change
time, managers, financial
what are the 4 steps - wire
weighting, ranking, implementing, and evaluating the response
Explain weighting
identify the driving forces and restraining forces and then give them a score on how powerful they are - out of 4
Explain ranking
which driving forces need strengthening?
which restraining forces need weakening?
Explain implementing a response
action plan- put someone in charge and give them a deadline
What to do to strengthen/weaken, who’s responsible, and when by
Explain evaluating the response
How did we go strengthening / weakening?
do the driving forces now overpower the restraing forces.
if no or tie - go back to stage 3 or give up
if yes- then precede
Disadvantages for the theory
There’s a bias- the weight or what forces there are are all subjective to the maker
Advantages for the theory
gives you a clear indication on the driving and restraining forces and whether you should go through with it
