Significance of lifestyle on health
A
- As life expectancy increases, lifestyle-related illnesses have overtaken infectious diseases as the biggest cause of death (e.g. smoking-related cancers, obesity-related illnesses, alcohol-related illnesses).
- Government focus more on educating people about better lifestyle choices and avoiding illness than preventing/treating infectious diseases.

A
- 90% cases are from smokers or passive smokers
- only 10% of those with lung cancer live for more than 5 years - compared to 50% living at least 10 years for other cancers.
