ligaments of equine Flashcards
(23 cards)
What is the funicular part of the ligamentum nuchae?
A paired structure originating from the occipital protuberance and attaching to the spinous processes of T2-4
Bursas present between the ligament and dorsal tuber of C1, spinous process of C2, and spinous process of T2-4. Infection of these bursas is referred to as ‘poll evil’ and ‘fistulous withers’.
What does the lamellar section of the ligamentum nuchae attach to?
Attaches from the spinous processes of C2-C7 to the funicular section dorsally.
What does the ligamentum nuchae continue as caudally?
Continues as the ligamentum supraspinale from T4 to S5.
What are the ligaments of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)?
Lateral and caudal ligaments.
What are the lateral ligaments of the atlanto-occipital joint?
Ligaments located between the wing and paracondylar processes.
What ligaments are found between C1 and C2?
Ligamentum atlantoaxiale dorsal, apical ligament of the dens, two alar ligaments, and transverse ligament of atlas.
Which ligaments comprise the spinal column?
Ligamentum supraspinale, interspinale, intertransversarius, longitudinal dorsalis, longitudinal ventralis, flavum, intercapitalis, costotransversarium, and capitis costae radiatum.
What is the function of the ligament sacrotuberale latum?
Connects from the transverse process of the sacrum and Cy1 and 2 to the spina ischiadicum and tuber ischiadicum.
Which ligaments are associated with the sacroiliac joint?
Ligamenta sacroiliaca dorsalis, lateralis, ventralis, and interossea.
What is the ligament teres associated with?
Connects the foveae capitis femoralis to the fossa acetabuli in the hip joint.
What ligaments stabilize the femorotibial joint?
Ligt femoropatellare medialis and lateralis, patellae mediale, intermedius and laterale, collaterale med/lat, cruciatum cran/caud, and menisci cran/caud.
What does the ligament plantare longum connect?
Connects fibular tarsal (calcaneus) with the head of Mt4.
What are the ligaments of the shoulder joint?
There are no collateral ligaments; their function is taken over by muscles.
What is the role of the ligament collaterale med/lat in the elbow joint?
Locks the elbow joint in extension.
What ligaments are present in the carpal joint?
Collaterale med/lat, carpi palmare, interossei, intercarpalis med/lat, and os accessorium.
What ligaments are found in the metacarpophalangeal joint?
Collaterale med/lat, sesamoidean collaterale, palmare intersesamoidean, distal sesamoid ligaments, and palmar annular ligament.
What are the functions of the palmar digital annular ligaments?
Tie down the flexor tendons as they proceed past the 1st and 2nd phalanx.
What ligaments are associated with the distal interphalangeal joint?
Collaterale med/lat.
What connects the distal sesamoid to the solar surface of P3?
Ligament impar.
Where are the ungal or lateral cartilages attached?
Attached to P2, P3, and the distal sesamoid.
What are the accessory ligaments of the flexor digiti superficialis and profundus?
Accessory ligament of M flex digit superficialis and accessory ligament of M flex digit profundus.
What is the function of retinaculae?
Tie down flexors or extensors as they proceed past an angled joint.
What do joint capsules consist of?
An external fibrous layer that restricts the mobility of a joint.
