Legend: in the early 1500s, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci was painting a mural of the Virgin Mary in Saronno, Italy, using a local inkeepers daughter as the model. for thanks, the model gave the artist a flask of a special liqueur. years later, the artist discovered the recipe for this liqueur and passed it down from father to son for generations, until the family began producing it commercially in the early 1900s. flavor comes from apricot kernel oil
