Live Cell Imaging Answers Flashcards
what is live-cell imaging (2)
1) imaging technique used to observe cells in their mimicked natural environment in real-time
2) study cell functions using microscopy
What is live cell imaging used for (6)
1) cell behaviour
2) Cancer research
3) Cell signalling and interaction
4) Drug research
5) Neuronal interactions
6) tissue engineering
seven steps of live cell imaging
1) plate cells and incubate for growth
2) treat cells with desired compound
3) Stain cells with fluorophores
4) environmental controls to mimmick the cells natural environment
5) obtain the image using the proper cell imaging technique based of the environmental conditions and what you intend to analyze
6) Analyze the image using software of choice
7) name the type of live cell imaging technique and explain in 1-2 sentences how it works
Bright-field microscopy
the specimen is illuminated with white light passing through it, images are formed when observing differences in light absorption withing the sppecimen (primarily 2D)
TIRFM
involves pointing a laser at specific angles of the specimen. Only fluorophores between 10 and 200 nanometers are excited, thus generating a clear image of the surface of the specimen (2D)
