Grammar Adjectives Governing the same word
Any number of adjectives governing the same word have the same ending: mein guter, alter Freund viele neue Anekdoten
71
Grammar Adjectives Towns
Adjectives are made from towns by adding -er. These adjectives don't decline die Bostoner Kirche der Kölner Dom eines Berliner Kuchens
72
Grammar Adjectives Comparitives
As in English, the comparitive is made by adding -er to the positive adjective. stark, stärker, alt, älter In English, comparitives are often formed of long adjectives by prefixing with more (eg more interesting). Germans don't do this - no adjective is too long to become a positive adjective (eg interessanter, die interessanter Bücher)
73
Grammar Adjectives Superlatives
There are two forms of the superlative: 1. as in English, made by adding -est to the positive adjective (eg stark, stärkst, alt, ältest). Used before a noun or when a noun is understood (das größte Kind, die schönste Frau, Karl ist der beste (Schüler) in der Klasse) 2. prefix with am and add -en (eg am größten). Used in the predicate - (Fritz ist am besten im Deutsch (his bes subject); Paula ist am schönsten wenn sie lächelt)
74
Grammar Adjectives Comparitives and Superlatives Declining
``` Both decline like the positive: mein älterer Bruder die schönste Frau ein besseres Zimmer ein teu(e)rere Freund ```
75
Grammar Adjectives Comparitives and Superlatives Modifying
Most modify in the comparitive and superlative (especially if they are of one syllable): groß, größer, größt, lang, länger, längst, kurz, kürzer, kürzest
