The conjunctions wenn, weil and sobald put the verb at the end of the clause - called a subordinate clause since it cannot make sense by itself but must be dependent on a main clause Weil es hungrig ist - because he's hungry A subordinate clause is obviously only one element in a full sentence and if it comes first, the main verb comes second, immediately after it Sie trinkt ein Glas Wasser, wenn sie durstig ist Wenn sie durstig ist, trinkt sie ein Glas Wasser
