Advocate- Support

A

Advocacy means getting support from another person to help you express your views and wishes, and help you stand up for your rights.
Someone who helps you in this way is your advocate.

An advocate will;

-listens to your views and concerns.
-helps you to explore your options and rights (without pressuring you)
-provides information to help you make informed decisions
-help you contact relevant people, or contact them on your behalf.
-accompany you and support you in meetings or appointments.

An advocate won’t;
-give you there personal opinion.
-solve problems and make decisions for you
-judge you

SEAP- A charity that provides free, independent and confidential advocacy services. It helps to resolve issues about health and social care services. Its aim is to ensure individuals are in control of decisions that are made about them, and making sure wishes and views are heard.

MIND- charity empowering those experiencing mental health problems. Campaigns to raise awareness and understanding of mental health.

Empower Me- An organisation that develops advocacy and service user involvement projects. It supports mental health service users and people with learning difficulties to have a voice, promoting social inclusion and community cohesion.
