Lobes Flashcards
(5 cards)
Frontal lobe
-Responsible for sophisticated mental abilities
e.g Reasoning, problem solving, decision making, emotional regulation
-Prefrontal cortex : plans movement
-Premotor cortex : organizes movement sequences
-Primary motor cortex : produces specific movements
Frontal lobe (Broca area)
-A small area in the front of the left primary motor cortex
-Important to produce articulate speech
-Involved with language
-Main purpose is to coordinate the message to the lips, tongue, vocal chords and jaws allowing speech to be produced
Parietal lobe
-Receives and processes bodily somatosensory info such as temp, touch and position of body parts
-Primary somatosensory cortex: Receives and processes sensory information (works contrarily)
Occipital lobe
-Primary visual cortex is located at the back of the occipital lobe
-Responsible for processing vision
-sensory info from the eyes are not completely contralateral
Temporal lobe
-Involved with auditory perception
-plays and important part in memory, identifying faces or objects and responses to sensory info
-Primary auditory cortex recieves and processes sound.
Wernicke’s area : crucial for comprehending sounds of human speech
