Significance of Pasteur.

A
  • Provided a “why” to the cause of disease and Snow’s and Lister’s discoveries and Nightingale’s actions.
  • Inspired other scientists like Robert Koch.
  • Led to greater developments in surgery, public health, and vaccines (e.g. chicken cholera, rabies).

  • Initial had no impact, many didn’t believe.
  • Unable to prove his theory specifically (specific pathogen causing certain disease).
  • Some diseases could not be explained through microbes (e.g. hereditary diseases).
