Louis Pasteur Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Doings of Pasteur.
A
- Developed pasteurisation
- Disproved spontaneous generation and miasma - microbes in the air cause substances to rot and go bad so microbes in the air cause disease.
2
Q
Significance of Pasteur.
A
- Provided a “why” to the cause of disease and Snow’s and Lister’s discoveries and Nightingale’s actions.
- Inspired other scientists like Robert Koch.
- Led to greater developments in surgery, public health, and vaccines (e.g. chicken cholera, rabies).
3
Q
Inisgnificance of Pasteur.
A
- Initial had no impact, many didn’t believe.
- Unable to prove his theory specifically (specific pathogen causing certain disease).
- Some diseases could not be explained through microbes (e.g. hereditary diseases).
4
Q
Time of Pasteur’s impact
A
1861-77 or late 1800s
