LUNGS TRANS (ACUTE INFECTION AND CHRONIC INFECTIONS) Flashcards
(16 cards)
ACUTE INFECTIONS
Cough associated with sore throat, runny nose, and eyes
Upper respiratory tract infection
Tracheobronchitis
ACUTE INFECTIONS
cough is often preceded by symptoms of symptoms of URTI dry cough becomes painful at first; later becomes productive
lobar pneumonia
ACUTE INFECTIONS
cough is either dry or productive usually begins as acute bronchtus
bronchopneumonia
ACUTE INFECTIONS
Paroxysmal cough productive of mucoid or blood stained sputum associated with flu-like syndrome
headache may be a problem
mycoplasma or viral pneumonia
ACUTE INFLAMMATION
dry cough, maybe productive or variable (minimal) amount of sputum
acute, fairly minor illness with hoarseness
laryngitis
ACUTE INFLAMMATION
dry cough may become productive
often with BURNING retrosternal discomfort and quite painful chest pain
trachebronchitis
ACUTE INFLAMMATION
DRY HACKING cough often becoming productive of mucoid sputum
acute febrile illness often with malaise, headache, and possibly dyspnea
mycoplasma and viral pneumonia
ACUTE INFLAMMATION
sputum is mucoid or purulent (brick-red sputum); may be blood-streaked, diffusely pinkish or rusty
pneumococcal pneumoniae
CHRONIC INFECTIONS
cough productive of sputum on most days for more than 3 consecutive months and for more than 1 year
majority of patients are smokers
also complains of shortness of breath –> label as COPD
chronic bronchitis
TUMORS
cough is non-productive for weeks to months
CHARACTERISTIC: Recurrent small amount of hemoptysis is common and self-limiting
Hemoptysis lasts for 1-2 days
Bronchogenic CA
TUMORS
cough is similar to that with bronchogenic CA except in occasional instances when large quantities of watery mucoid sputum are produced
alveolar CA
CHRONIC INFLAMATION
Repeated attempts to clear throat
stuffy nose
chronic cough
sputum mucoid or mucopurulent
post-nasal drip
CHRONIC INFLAMMATION
cough is dry or sputum that is mucoid or purulent may be blood-streaked
later: anorexia, weight loss, fatigue, night sweats , fever, low grade fever
Pulmonary TB
CHRONIC INFLAMMATION
sputum is purulent, foul smelling, may be bloody. often poor dental hygiene, and prior episode of impaired consciousness, fever (low moderate fever)
lung abscess
CHRONIC INFLAMMATION
cough with thick mucoid sputum especially near the end of the attack
episodic wheezing and dyspnea but cough may occur alone
shortness of breath is exposed to precipitating causes
often with history of allergy
asthma
CHRONIC INFLAMMATION
chronic cough especially in the night or morning, wheezing, especially at night, early morning hoarseness, and repeated attempts to clear the throat
GERD
