features:
communication one-way, objectives reflect ideas of the manager

A:
decision making is quick as only one person is involved, communication is direct, suitable for higher risk decisions + young/inexperienced employees, high regard for production + efficiency

DA:
discourages teamwork, low motivation and job satisfaction - higher staff turnover, no open communicataion (one-way) and feedback

A

when the managers attempt to convince the workers of the benefits of the decisions that they make.

features:
one way communication, employee morale will be higher than autocratic

A:
decision making is quick as it is only made by one person, can gain trust and support through persuasion, suits high risk decisions

DA:
communication is still one way - opinions and feedback not sought, low levels of morale + teamwork

seeking employee inputs increases satisfaction and motivation, suggestions can lead to a better decision making outcome

will be time consuming as time is taken to consult, some suggestions may be overlooked/ignored which can lead to resentment and feeling of less self confidence/value

where the manager has no central role or power as the employees are responsible for the decision making and operations of the business

features:

strong motivation and job satisfication from employees, encourages creativity and innovation, employees given complete freedom and responsibility due to trust

can lead to a loss of control, conflict between employees, may not suit certain employees, lack of guidance –> loss of direction

A

nature of task: whether the task is important (autocratic should be used) or open/creative - needs feedback (participative should be used)

time:
whether time frame to decide is short or long

experience of employees:
inexperienced - autocratic or persuasive (as they are new they would not have much knowledge)

manager preference:
depends on preference in different situations
