Managing injury rehabilitation Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is Progressive mobilisation?
Following RICER, Movement is restored to injury as soon
Gradually increasing the injured part’s range of motion - Until injury is fully functional
Reduce build up of scar tissue, allow greater mobility
Athlete must avoid any aggravation during rehab = will extend healing period
Progressive mobilisation Cycle:
- Injury
- Acute care
- Rehabilitation
- Returning to play
- Maintain fitness, strength, flexibility
- Improve skills and technique
- Taping (if appropriate)
- To prevent
What is Graduated exercise?
(Stretching, conditioning, total body fitness)
Stretching (graduated exercise)
Assists muscle to gain elasticity
Heal without scarring
Scarring shortens muscle making it prone to further injury
PNF STRETCHING (BEST!!!)
Conditioning/Strengthening (graduated exercise)
Build up of fitness as a result of gradual increases in physical stress
Overload principle
Work injured to be able to perform skills without pain, with full movement
(STRENGTH, HYPERTROPHY, MUSCULAR ENDURANCE)
