Airways are dilated but constrict immediately activity ceases (NARROWS)
4
Q
Why are some exercises more dangerous for asthma attacks then others?
A
Cooling process of nerve endings in air passageways
Swimming in warm water carries far less risk
Inspired air is saturated with warmer water vapour & the nerve endings are not cooled to the same degree
- Cold water shocks the body, triggering gasping, hyperventilation,
5
Q
Why is swimming the most preferred form of exercise?
A
Warm, moist environment is less likely to cause an attack
During breathing, air forced out of lungs, into water, improves lung function
