Inserts on medial tibial condyle
Prevents valgus instability
Presentation MCL
Direct contact - valgus force
Indirect - twisting, change of direction
Grade 1 MCL
Med pain
Swelling
Tender
W/O lax
Grade 2 MCL
Med pain
Swelling
Ecchymosis
Instability
Grade 3 MCL
Severe med pain
Swelling
Severe Ecchymosis
Knee gives way into valgus
Increased lax
Tests - MCL
Valgus stress test -
Supine
Hand outside knee other at foot
ABD force at foot
30 and 0 knee fx
Gapping or pain - positive
Swain Test -
Pt seated fx 90 degree knee fx
Thx grabs ankle and ex rot tibia
P on test
Antmed drawer test -
Pt supine
Knee 90 fx
Ant med force on joint line
