Angina Pectoris
Pain or Discomfort in the chest, often described as pressure by the patients.
Angina is dived into 2 types:
• Stable Angina: Brought on by exertion with a duration of symptoms lasting less that 20minutes and is relived by rest and possibly medication.
• Unstable Angina: Occurs suddenly and without warning or probation and with duration of more than 20minutes and not relived by rest or medication. This is much more concerning because it represents a change in the patient status.
Arrhythmia
Abnormal heart rhythm
Asystole
The absence of electrical activity in the heart.
Bradycardia
A rhythm characterized by a heart rate of less that 60 beats per minute, (slow heart)
Tachycardia
A rhythm characterized by a heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute (fast heart)
Ischemia
Insufficient circulation to meet the oxygen demands of tissue; this is the underlying cause of angina pectoris (restriction of blood flow)
Cardiac Arrest
Absence of cardiac activity and contraction.
Myocardial Infarction
Death of the muscle tissue of the heart, cause by ischemia.
