The institution of the Christian Church, including all the people who ran it and all the individual churches

Power of the pope to expel someone from the Church

A person who suffers or is killed because of their religious or political beliefs

Religious service on a Sunday that worshippers were expected to attend

A building in which monks live and worship.

A journey typically taken to a site of religious importance
What was purgatory?
A place where an individual’s soul stayed until all their sins had been forgiven
What is a relic?
Part of a saint’s body or something they owned which was believed to have the power to perform miracles
