what happens before division begins in meiosis
A
duplication of DNA

what happens in the first division
A
1.chromosomes line up in pairs in the middle of the cell (one chromosome from each parent)
2.pairs then pull apart so each new cell only has one copy of each chromosome
3.each new cell has a mixture of the mothers and fathers chromosomes. This is important as it creates genetic variation in the offspring

what happens in the second division
A
1.the chromosomes line up again in the middle of the cell
2.the arms of the chromosomes are pulled apart
3.resulting in 4 haploid daughter cells
