Similar to court cairns but much bigger. From the outside they look like a giant hill.Inside there is a long passage leading to a chamber.Archaeologists have found cremated bodies in the chambers. There are over 200 of them in Ireland the most famous being NEWGRANGE :0

25
What is Newgrange
It was build around 2675BC and 2485BC it is older than Stonehenge and the pyramids. The passage at Newgrange is over 19 metres long and the chamber is 6 metres high.It would have taken 400 men 16 years to build
26
What kind of artwork does Newgrange have
the stones in the passage are decorated with spiral, circle and diamond patterns
27
what is a corbelled roof
when the stones overlap slightly until they meet at a single stone in the centre
28
What is the roof box
On 21 of December light shines through the roof box and illuminates the whole chamber. They must have planned this very carefully and as well as this it is also a pretty site
29
why was newgrange built
People believe it was used as a tomb but only for important people,or people who believed it the sun god or maybe just for a calender but because of this we now know alot more about the Neolithic people.
