7
Q

why are some metals more reactive than other metals

A

because they lose electrons more easily to form cations

Q

what are the 3 exceptions to the reactivity series

A
  1. aluminium has a layer of aluminium oxide that stops it from reacting with water
  2. in a reaction of calcium with dilute sulfuric acid, a layer of insoluble calcium sulfate forms slowing the reaction down
  3. in a reaction of magnesium and water a layer of sparingly soluble magnesium hydroxide forms and slows the reaction
