Metals, Acids And Alkalis Flashcards
(25 cards)
What is a displacement reaction?
A more reactant element replaces a less reactant element in a compound
What would happen if you added lithium to water?
Lithium hydroxide would form.
How would you test for hydrogen?
Place your metal in a test tube and put the burning splint at the mouth of the test tube , without it touching the water. If it creates a squeaky pop sound, hydrogen gas has formed.
What is the products of magnesium+hydrochloric acid?
Magnesium chloride+ hydrogen
What is the formula for glucose?
C6,H12,06
What is a neutralisation reaction ?
Acid+alkali➡️salt+water
What is the pH of a neutralisation reaction?
pH 7
What is the difference between an alkali and a base?
Alkali is soluble
What is the salt formed from magnesium and nitric acid?
Magnesium nitrate
What is the product of oxygen and any metal above lead when heated?
Metal oxide
What is the products of metal and acid when heated?
Salt and hydrogen
Which metals can only be combined acid?
All above copper in the reactivity series
Products of metals and oxygen
Metal oxide
Which metals can be combined with oxygen to make metal oxide?
All metals above lead
Products of acid and metals?
Salt and hydrogen
What metals combine with acid to make salt and hydrogen?
All metals above copper
Which metal can not react with anything and why?
All under Copper, too unreactive
2 examples of indicator
Universal indicator and litmus paper
What do weak acids taste like?
Sour
What are strong acids and alkalis described as?
Corrosive
Which pH is acids under?
7
Which pH is alkalis over?
7
What colour does litmus paper turn if it is an acid?
Red
What colour does litmus paper turn if it is an alkali?
Blue
