Microscopes Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is a light microscope?
A device that uses visible light and lenses to magnify specimens
What is magnification?
Magnification is the ratio of an object’s size when viewed through a microscope to its actual size
What is resolution?
The minimum distance between two objects where they can still be seen as two separate objects
What is a transmission electron microscope (TEM)?
A microscope that uses a beam of electrons to examine the structure internally in cells
What is a scanning electron microscope (SEM)?
A microscope that uses a beam of electrons to examine the structure externally in cells
What is an eyepiece graticule?
A glass disc that’s placed in the eyepiece of a microscope. It’s used to measure the size of microscopic objects, such as cells and bacteria with precision
What is a stage micrometer?
A microscope with a precise scale that is used to calibrate the eye piece graticule – allows for accurate measurements of specimen under a microscope
