Structural Functionalism
A school of thought according to which each of the institutions, relationships, roles, and norms that together constitute a society serves a purpose
Conflict Theory
Emphasized the competition between groups, often framing issues in terms of dominance and subordination
Symbolic Interactionism
Emphasizes how individuals shape/are shaped by society via daily interactions.
-Shared societal meanings are constructed/reconstructed via human communication
Feminist Theory
Aims to highlight the social problems and issues that are experienced by women

-U.S Supreme Court Ruling
-Declared that no black could claim U.S citizenship or petition a court for their freedom
Emancipation Proclamation
-Issue directed by Abraham Lincoln during Civil War
-Declared all slaves within confederate states to be free
13th Amendment
passed after the Civil War to end slavery and protect the rights of former slaves
14th Amendment
granted citizenship and rights to former slaves & their descendants
15th Amendment
granted voting rights to black men in 1970 after the civil war and the abolition of slavery
