when does hypertensive encephalopathy occur
When BP rises above 250/150 mm Hg
Hypertensive encephalopahty is associated with
Rapid elevations of BP (e.g. intracranial hemorrhages)
What is a TBI?
Traumatic Brain Injury AKA Concussion; Transient loss or alteration of consciousness d/t head trauma that causes reversible deficit in neuro function.
What are red flags of TBI? (Remember the mnemonic)
I Need My Very Special Head Protection
I - (increasing) Impairment of consciousness
N - Nausea or vomiting persistent
M - Motor activity decreased
V - Vital signs — BP, pulse, respiration; Vision (+ any other CN deficits)
S - Seizures
H - Headache increasing
P - Pupillary inequality/Papilledema
