Midterm Flashcards
(15 cards)
1
Q
somatosenory
A
info from skin to musculosketetal system
2
Q
3 pathways that send sensory info
A
- conscious pathway
- divergent pathway
- unconscious relay
3
Q
conscious relay/pathway
A
transmits info about location and type of stimuli
4
Q
divergent pathway
A
sends info to many locations in brainstem and cerebrum
5
Q
unconscious relay
A
unconscious movement information. Allows the body to automatically adjust to sense change in proprioception
6
Q
fine touch receptors
A
- small fields
- superficial (light touch, vibration, pressure, displacement of hair)
- subcutaneous (touch, vibration, stretch)
7
Q
course touch receptors
A
- received by free nerve endings (nocicoceptors)
- crude/rough touch (tickling, itching)
- C fibers (nocicoceptors that respond to pain/tissue damage)
8
Q
what signals tendon tension
A
golgi tendon organs
9
Q
anterior cord syndrome
A
- flexion injuries
- loss of motor function, pain and temp
10
Q
brown sequard syndrome
A
- generally caused by stab wounds that become infected (scalpel)
- presents as asymmetrical, ipsilateral, contralateral
11
Q
ipsilateral brown sequard syndrome
A
- loss of sensation in dermatome, proiproception, kinesthesia, vibratory sense
- decreased reflexes (clonus/babinski)
12
Q
contralateral browns sequard syndrome
A
- loss of pain and temp
- caused by damage to spinothalamic tracts
- begins several segments below lesion
13
Q
posterior cord syndrome
A
- rare
- loss of conscious proprioception, vibration, Dtouch below lesion
- common in late stage syphilis
14
Q
central cord syndrome
A
- common hyperextension injury
- spinal stenosis
- elderly
- compression causes hemorrhage/edema on SC
15
Q
autonomic dysreflexia
A
- noxious stimulus from bladder distension/pressure ulcers
- sit pt up, check/stop stimulus
- S/X: HTN, blurred vision, HA
- subsides with time
