What is a catholic priest?
A Catholic Priest is a religious leader who has been appointed by the bishop and received the Sacrament of Holy orders.
What is Ordination?
The ceremony during which someone becomes a priest is called ordination.
What does the Catholic church believe about what happens to a soul of a priest during Ordination?
Catholics believe that when a priest is ordained, his soul undergoes a change and he is forever marked as a priest
Why do Catholic Priests make a vow of celibacy?
So he can dedicate himself to serving God

Name the three main duties of a parish priest.
They are to administer the Sacraments (baptism, reconciliation, Holy communion, anointing the sick and marriage).
During Mass, why does the priest say ‘This is my body’?
Because He acts ‘in the person of Christ ‘
Do priests get paid?
They get paid a modest monthly salary from the parish as well as their meals and accommodation
What is a seminary and how long might a man spend there?
A seminary is a special training college for priests and they spend between six and nine years (depending on his educational backround)

What are monks and nuns?
They are people who commit themselves fully to religious life
What is a monastery?
A monastery is a building in which monks live in a community and a convent is a building in which nuns live in a community.

What buildings or rooms are often found within a monastery or convent?
A place for prayer and worship, such as a church chapel or temple as well as dormitories, dining-room, infirmary

Contemplative order

What is the contemplative order?
Involves a hidden life of work and prayer
What is the Apostolic order?
It involves working in the community (perhaps teaching, nursing, caring for the sick, poor or elderly).
What three vows must a monk take?
Obedience – the promise to obey Christ (represented by the senior member of the monastery).
* Poverty – the monk cannot own anything
* Chastity – the monk cannot have a sexual relationship nor get married.
What three things do all monks and nuns have a duty to do everyday?
Pray, meditate and work
How do you become a monk?
You must first become a postulant. This involves spending time living in the monastery. After a period of time you become a novice monk or nun for around a year during which he/she begins to participate fully in the monastery.
