What can microfibres be used for?

A

What are thermoplastic polyester or nylon microfibres used for?

A

They can be heat treated to give then coils, crimps and loops, which makes these textures yarns stretchy and warm. They are used for underwear // sportswear // knitwear // carpets

What are speciality fibres?

A

Polyethylene microfibres make the strongest fibres you can imagine. They are from the family of polyamides. They create Nomex which is flame resistant, and Kevlar which is bulletproof.

What is Nomex?

A

A key synthetic fibre which has been developed for use in garments and products used by firefighters and the military

What is Kevlar?

A

A hard wearing and extremely strong material. It can be given soft characteristics, but on impact the fabric stiffens up. It is five times stronger than steel and is used for products such as protective jackets.

Polyester or nylon microfibres are 60-100 times finer than a human hair. They can be blended with other synthetic or natural fibres.
