Q

Describe the failure classical physics:-

A

• The electromagnetic theory predicts that accelerated electric charges radiate
energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. An electron pursuing a curved
path is accelerated and therefore should continuously lose energy, spiraling into the nucleus in a fraction of a second .This prediction of classical physics is in direct contradiction to the fact that the hydrogen atom is Stáble Moreover, classical electrodynamics predicts that energy is continuously fadiated and therefore the resulting spectrum of the emitted radiation must be continuous.

Q

How atoms absorb and emit energy?

A

1- A collision with another particle in which part of their joint kinetic energy Is absorbed by the atom. Such an excited atom will return to its ground state in an average of 10° g by emitting one or more photons.)
2- Another excitation mechanism is involved when an atom absorbs a photon of light whose energy is just the right amount to raise the atom to a higher energy level.

Q

What is bohr the correspondence principle?

A

The requirement that quantum physics give the same results as classical physics in the limit of large quantum numbers was called by Bohr the correspondence principle.
