Modies, Crime, Govern Responses Flashcards
(5 cards)
1 PEE on govern responses (SVRU)
One government response to crime is the SVRU (Scottish Violence Reduction Unit). This means that the Scottish government directly funds part of the police to work and identify evidence-based solutions to violence. Evidence of this is a study of SVRU found that the possession of knife crime for their CIRV (Community Initiative to Reduce Violence) clients have decreased by 59%.
1 PEE on govern responses (CPO)
Another government response to crime is the CPO (Community Payback Order). This means that an offender can be sentenced to unpaid work within a neighbourhood. Evidence of this is that offenders given a CPO have to carry out between 200-300 hours of unpaid work, for the benefit of the community.
1 PEE on govern responses (police)
One way in which the government respond to crime is the police. This means that the government uses the police force to tackle crime, they do this by working with other agencies, the use of powers like stop and search and tasers. Evidence of this is nearly 650,000 people in Eng+Wales were arrested 2021/2022.
1 PEE on govern responses (in prison)
Another way the government respond to crime is prisons. This means that the government expects those who commit crimes to be punished, this punishment response is placing perpetrators in prison. Evidence of this is that nearly 8000 people are in Scottish prisons.
1 PEE on govern responses (CJS)
Another way the government responds to crime is the criminal justice system. This means that the government oversees a system where suspected wrongdoers stand Trial. Evidence of this is over 85,000 first instance criminal cases were registered in Scottish courts in 2021/22.
