  • A consequence perpetrators can face after being convicted of a crime are lack of employment, this is because they will have to reveal their criminal past when applying for jobs. This means that they may struggle to bring themselves back to a normal life after prison. Prison Reform Trust found that around 50% of employers said they would not consider hiring someone with a criminal record, making it harder for ex-offenders to find work.
  • Another consequence they may face is that they also may struggle to hold on to long term relationships and to re-build trusts. This means that they can become lonely and struggle maintain a good mental health after prison. Mental Health Foundation shows that people leaving prison often face isolation and broken family ties, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and an increased risk of depression and anxiety.
