what is the cardiovascular system
its the system made up of blood, the heart, and blood vessels
carries and produces White blood Cells
Also helps with clotting at the site
what is hypertension
Hypertension (is also called high blood pressure)
what are risk factors for hyptension
risk factors for hypertension are:
Age (begins to rise after 35)
Diabetes
Smoking
Drinking
Stress
what causes hypertension
Narrow blood vessels
Kidney disorders
head injuries
complications of pregnancy
signs and symptoms
Headache
dizziness
blurred vision
complications of hypertension
Stroke
Heart attack

what is congestive heart failure
Congestive heart failure is when the heart cannot pump blood normally,and blood backs up causing congestion of the tissues
what are the effects of right sided heart failure
Swelling of the feet and ankles
neck vein distention
Abdomen congestion
liver congestion
and eventually signs and symptoms of left sided failure will occur
what are the effects of left sided heart failure
Dyspnea (Shortness of breath)
Increased sputum (thick mucus from the lungs)
cough
gurgling chest sounds
signs and symptoms from effects of organs not recieving enough oxygen
what is angina
Angina is Chest pain from reuced blood flow to a portion of the heart muscle
what are some triggers of angina
Triggers of angina is
Physical exertion
Emotional Exertion
Extreme heat and cold
Heavy Meals
signs and symptoms of angina
Chest Pains
Tightness
Discomfort in the left side of the chest
Pain may radiate to other sides
may be pale
feel faint
treatment of angina
Nitroglycerin is given to relieve angina (a tablet is placed under the tongue)
Coronary bypass surgery
Stent may be placed to artery
(MI) Myocardial infarction is what?
Another word for MI is Heart Attack
and it is caused by lack of blood supply to the heart musce, often due to blockage in an artery from atherosclerosis (build up of fatty matereials on the walls of the arteries) or a thrombus (Blood clot)
signs and symptoms of MI
sudden and severe chest pain
usually left sided
crushing, stabbing, or squeezing pain
feelings of tighness
heaviness
pressure
shortness of breath
cold and clammy skin
Treatment for people with MI
Emergency care
Efforts to relieve pain, stabilize vitals, give oxygen, and calm the person down
After MI activities are increased gradually
can tae 6-8 weeks to heal heart
What are valves
Valves are connected to the heart
They prevent blood from flowing back into the heart
What are pulmonary Veins
Pulmonary veins carry oxinated blood FROM lungs TO the heart
what is an atria
Atria is the UPPER chambers of the heart
they RECIEVE the blood
the RIGHT atrium recieves deoxinated blood from the body through 2 large veins
the LEFT atrium recieves oxinated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins
What are Ventricles
Ventricles are the LOWER chambers of the heart
ventricles pump blood OUT of the heart
What is Aorta
aorta is the largest arteery in your body
it carries rich blood FROM the left ventricl TO the body
What is Pulse and Pulse sites
Normal pulse rate is 60-100 bpm
the sites are
radial- wrist
cartoid- neck
femoral- groin
brachial- arm
dorsalia pedis- foot
what is a Cell
a Cell is a bsic working unit of the body
