DLD( Developmental language disorder)
-difficulties with everyday life and communication
- receptive and expressive abilities impacted
-persistent throughout devleopment
causes DLD
combo of family history/genetics, environmental, other developemental disorders
-not caused by biomedical condition or developmental disorder
dld affected language areas
-phonological awarenss (phoneme blending or manipulation, future reading difficulties) NOT Speech sound disorder
-morphology and syntax (sequential ordering of utterances and comprehension, grammaticality judgements, differentiating grammatical forms)
-semantics (word finding, production, comprehension -> word level, word combo, sentence level, passage level)
-discourse and pragmatics (contextual and social cues, figurative language, intonation, stress)
- verbal memory (STM -> word and speech-sound recall, word to meaning mappings, speech-sounds and morpho-syntaactic patterns) NOT hearing and auditory processing, or language proficiency/familiarity
