Correct way to cleanse a puncture site?

A

use gauze or an antiseptic-soaked pad in a circle motion, beginning where the skin will be punctured and moving out. allow to air dry.

What to do if a Pt. shows signs of syncope during a venipuncture?

A

immediately stop the procedure by removing the tourniquet and needle, place pressure on the venipuncture site, and protect the pt. from injury by assisting them to the floor or to a reclining position.

What to do if a Pt. loses consciousness before, during or after venipuncture?

A

Stop the procedure, monitor the Pt. breathing by watching their chest to check for movement in and out or listening for 5 - 10 seconds. If the pt. is breathing, remove or loosen any restricting items. Note how long Pt. was unconscious. Never leave the Pt. alone until they recover fully.

How to perform CPR on an Adult

A

Place the heel of the hand on the Pt. sternum between the nipples, and place the other hand over the first, interlacing the fingers. Give at least 100 compressions per minute, at least 3.8 to 5cm (1.5-2.0 in) in depth. Allow the chest to fully recoil between compressions.

How to perform CPR on a Child

A

Place one hand on top of the other interlacing fingers and pressing down 5cm (2in) on the center of the Childs chest 30 times, aiming for a rate od 100-120 compressions per minute. Give two rescue breaths and begin the cycle again until help arrives, the child recovers, or you are exhausted and can no longer continue.

How to do CPR on an Infant

A

use 2 fingers to provide 30 quick compression son the center of the chest 3.8 cm (1.5 in) deep, aiming at 100-120 compressions per minute, then follow with two rescue breaths and continue until the infant recovers, help arrives, or you are no longer able to continue do to exhaustion

A

applying a tourniquet, warming the site, wiping it with an alcohol wipe, or lowering the limb below the level of the Pt.s heart

Exposure control: Accidental needle stick

A

Immediately decontaminate the puncture site with antiseptic or soap and water. Notify the immediate supervisor. Document information regarding the exposure in the sharps injury log and on the facility’s incident report form. have a medical examination ASAP. undergo tests for infection (HIV, Hep B, Hep C)

Splash in the eyes, nose or mouth

A

Immediately flush the area with large amounts of water. Use an eye was station if available. Report the exposure to the immediate supervisor. Then seek an emergency medical examination to determine what further testing and treatment are necessary.

A

Flush the area with water then wash it with soap and water. Notify the immediate supervisor. Get medical assessment and treatment. Complete an incident report ASAP following the exposure.
