How do you test for starch
A
Add iodine to a sample and if there’s a colour change from blue to black starch is present

How do you test for reducing sugars (glucose)
A
Add Benedicts solution
Heat in a water bath
And look for a colour change from blue to brick red

How can you tell the strength of the reducing sugar
A
The more brick red, the more reducing the sugar is

How to test for non reducing sugars
If Benedict test is negative
A
Heat sample with dilute acid
Neutralise it
Add Benedicts solution again and heat
Look for colour change to brick red

How do you test for proteins
A
Add biuret solution
Look for colour change from blue to purple

How do you test for lipids
A
Add ethanol
Add water
Look for milky white precipitation if lipids are present
