the tonic note
what is the ST note?
supertonic, note right after the tonic, or first note
what is the M note?
mediant note, two notes above the tonic
what is the SD note?
subdominant note, just before the dominant
what is the D note?
dominant note, the fifth note of the scale
what is the SM note?
the submediant note, two notes down from the second tonic note
what is the L note?
leading note, note just belown the second tonic (feels like it wants to resolve to the tonic)

how do you relate the last note of the key to the scale?
the last note of the key is the leading note of the scale– F#–> G, etc
what is a diatonic collection?
made up of the key signature and the scale, it defines which notes belong and which do not; when ordered as a scale it also defines the role of individual notes within the collection.
what is the tonal centre?
the key, or key note, of a piece. Most pieces of music that follow the rules of traditional music theory will feel as though they need to return to the tonal centre.
