When we celebrate the Eucharist, we thank God for the good gifts he has bestowed on us.
Eucharist is an appropriate name for this sacrament because Jesus offered thanks to God at the last supper.

During the Eucharistic Prayer I, also known as the Roman Canon, the priest says, “giving you thanks, he said the blessing, broke the bread,” recalling and recognising Jesus’ role in during the Passover.

The Eucharist praises God for Jesus’ Passover including his death, resurrection, and glorification.
It also praises our own Passover including our baptism and our joining of Christ’s body.

This emphasises how when we offer the Eucharist today, we continue to praise and thank God for His work of salvation.
