How does a motor in its simplest form work

current flows round a coil which is in a magnetic field

the current has two different directions because its a coil - DUH

this means that on one side force is going up and the other it is going down

you can then create a rotating coil which goes round and round thanks to split-ring commutator

What does the split ring commutator allow and HOW

Answer 2

full rotations of the coil by keeping the positive and negative sides the same
otherwise it would do a 180 and then reverse again.
