Q

What is a draft genome

A

A genomic dna seqeunce of relatively low accuracy that has some missing segments (gaps) or contigs that are in the wrong order or orientation

Q

What is a complete genome

A

A genomic dna sequence of relatively high accuracy that has no ambiguity about the order or orientation of any segment and has a few if any gaps

Q

How does whole genome shotgun sequencing work

A

It’s a better way than doing cloning sequencing where you used to have the fragmented dna in a vector and and seqeuncing it with the vector

Shotgun:

DNA is randomly fragmented

The fragmented pieces are seqeunced to find order of bases

The computer programs assemble those fragmented seqeunces and close the gaps (hard to close the gaps)

Then edit the final seqeunce and annotate it
