Multi-store model of memory Flashcards

1
Q

AO1-

A
  • Memory is a linear process where information is passed from one store to another.
  • Info enters the sensory registry via the 5 senses - held no longer than 2 seconds
  • If you pay attention it enters the sim, which can hold 5-9 items. It is held via maintenance rehearsal.
  • If rehearsed enough it will transfer to the LTM

Q

Strengths AO3

A

S- supported by Baddeley; his study demonstrates the encoding of LTM and STM are correct, his p’s recalled less words when acoustically similar or semantically similar words were used - more credible
U- useful for explaining how revision works; it is able to explain real life behaviour- more credible explanation of memory
T- Brain scans are empirical evidence; can be tested- more credible

Q

Weakness AO3

A

C- KC conflicts msm; he suffered from brain damage his LTM was affected but he could remember semantic memories, not facts about his own life- msm is too simplistic
O- Baddeley wmm- contains different sub stores- msm is to simplistic to explain human memory because of its simplified view of STM
