1

What are the 5 data types?

Text

Video

Animation

Audio

Images

2

What is the formula to work out the file size of images?

Horizontal x Vertical x Bit Depth / 8 x 1024

3

What is the formula to work out the file size of audio files?

Sample rate x Sample Size / 8 x number of channels x Duration of track

4

List the devices that are used to display Multimedia Systems

Screens = CRT, LCD, Plasma, Touch Screens, Smartboards.

Projection devices =  Overhead proectors, Data projectors.

Speakers =  Mono, stereo, 5:1 Surround sound, 7:1 Surround sound

Head-Up displays = Oculus rift

5

What are the design principles when making a Multimedia System

Consistency

Navigation

Simplicity

6

Who are the people involved within a Multimedia System

Project Manager

Technical Staff

System Designer

Content Providers

Multimedia Specialists - (Graphic Designers, Web Developers, Audio / Video Specialist, etc)

7

What are the techniques of compression and describe what they are?

Lossy Compression removes a number of data bytes from the file in the compression porcess. It cannot be retrieved.

Lossless Compression maintains all data bytes in the compression porcess and allows the original file to be recovered in full.

8

List the social and ethical issues related to Multimedia.

Copyright

Appropriate use of the Internet

Emerging Technologies

Data Integrity

Privacy of the Individual

Security of Data

9

What are some devices used for digitising data?

Scanners - Handheld, Flatbed & Overhead.

Digital Cameras

Digital Video Cameras

Microphones

10

Provide an explanation of what interactivity is

Interactivity allows the users to interact with a computer to choose the sequence and content of information they want to view.

The most constant form of interactivity is typically found in games, which need a continuous form of interactivity with the gamer.

Browsing the Internet, Database applications and other financial, engineering and trading applications are also typically very interactive

11

What is the difference between cell based animation and path based animation?

Cell based animation involves drawing and displaying individual frames or cells

Path based animation is diplaying the movement of objects onton a fixed background in a particular sequence or path

12

List and describe each of the storyboard layouts.

Linear: A simple sequential path that is set up quickly.

Hierarchical: A sequential path in a top-down design in which the user starts at the beginning and moves down through the multimedia product.

Non-Linear: no structure; the user moves betweendifferent layouts in any direction.

Combination: a blending of the above layouts.

13

How many bytes are there in a kilobyte?

1024
