Muscle Types and movements Flashcards
(12 cards)
What are the three types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal
Cardiac
Smooth Muscle
What is the fibre appearance of Skeletal muscles?
Straited
What is the fibre appearance of Cardiac muscle?
specialized striated
What is the fibre appearance of Smooth muscle?
non-striated
What is the cell structure of muscle fibre like?
many nuclei
longer than normal cells
many mitochondria for ATP production
modified version of the endoplasmic reticulum called the sarcoplasmic reticulum which contains calcium ions for contraction
What is the name of the shared cytoplasm within a muscle fibre?
Sarcoplasm
What are myofibrils
Long cylindrical organelles made of protein and are specialized for contraction.
What is Actin?
Thinner filament, consisting of two strands twisted around each other.
What is Myosin
Thicker filament, consisting of long rod shaped fibers with heads that project to one side.
What is the Z line?
Line found at the centre of each light band.
What is a sacromere?
is is the section between adjacent Z lines and is the functional unit of the myofibril.
What is the H zone
The lighter coloured region found in the centre of each dark band, only myosin filaments appear here.
