Muscles of the Anterior Forearm Flashcards
(12 cards)
Muscles in the superficial group of the anterior forearm
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Palmaris Longus
Flexor Carpis Radialis
Pronator Teres
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Attachments: medial epicondyle, long origin from the ulna and passes into the wrist and attaches to the pisiform carpal bone
Actions: flexions and adduction at the wrist
Innervation: Ulnar Nerve
Palmaris Longus
Attachments: From the medial epicondyle and attaches to the flexor retinaculum of the wrist
Actions: Flexion at the wrist
Innervation: Median Nerve
Flexor Carpis Radialis
Attachement: from the medial epicondyle, attaches to the base of metacarpals 2 and 3
Actions: flexion and abduction of the wrist
Innervation: Median nerve
Pronator Teres
Attachments: Medial epicondyle and the coronoid process of the ulna to the lateral midshaft of the radius
Actions: pronation of the forearm
Innervation: Median nerve
Intermediate Compartment Muscle
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Attachments: Two heads, one from the medial epicondyle, the other from the radius. The muscle spolits into 4 tendons at the wrist which travel through the carpal tunnel and attach to the middle phalanges of the four fingers
Actions: flexes the metacarpophalangeal joints and the proximal interphalangeal joint at the four fingers and it flexes the wrist
Innervation: Median Nerve
Deep Compartment
Flexor Digitorum Profundus, flexor pollicus longus and pronator quadratus
Flexor Digitorum Profundus
Attachments: Originates from the ulna and splits into four tendons at the wrist and attach to the distal phalanges of the four fingers
Actions: flex distal interphalangeal joints of the fingers. It also flexes at the metacarpophalageal joints and the wrist
Innervation: The medial half (little and wring finger) is by the ulnar nerve. The lateral half is innervated by the anterior interosseous branch of the median nerve
Flexor Pollicus Longus
Attachments: anterior surface of the radius and surround membrane. Attaches to the base of the distal phalanx of the thumb
Actions: Flexes the interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb
Innervation: Median nerve
Pronator Quadratus
Attachments: originates from the anterior surface of the ulna and attaches to the anterior surface of the radius.
Actions: Pronation of the forearm
Innervation: median nerve (anterior interosseus nerve)
Brachioradialis
Flexion of the elbow. Supplied by the radial nerve.
