Muscles of Upper Extremity Flashcards
(17 cards)
Functions of Subclavius muscle
stabilization and projection of sternoclavicular joint, depression
Origin and Insertion of Subclavius muscle
O: superior aspect of first rib at its junction wit its costal cartilage
I: Inferior groove in the mid portion of the clavicle
Shoulder girdle muscles
trapezius (superficial), rhomboid (deep), levatorscapula, serratus anterior, pectoralis minor (deep)
Functions of levator scapulae
elevates the medial margin of the scapula
origin and insertion of levator scapulae
O: transverse processes of upper four cervical vertebrae (C1-4)
I: Medial border of scapula above spine
functions of trapezius muscle
upper fibers: elevation of scapula, extension of head
middle fibers: elevation, upward rotation and adduction
lower fibers: depression, adduction, and upward rotation
origin and insertion of trapezius muscle
O: base of skull, occipital protuberance, posterior ligaments of neck, spinous process of cervical (C7) and all thoracic vertebrae (T1-12)
I: Posterior aspect of lateral third of clavicle, medial border of acromion process/ upper border of scapular spin, triangular base of scapular spine
Rhomboid major and minor work….
together
functions of rhomboid major and minor
Adduction, downward rotation, elevation
Origin and insertion of rhomboid major and minor
O: Spinous process of last cervical (C-7) and first five thoracic vertebrae (T1-5)
I: Medial border of scapula below spine
functions of serratus anterior muscle
abduction (protraction), upward rotation
Origin and insertion of serratus anterior muscle
O: surfaces of upper nine ribs at side of chest
I: anterior aspect of whole length of medial border of scapula
Functions of pectoralis minor
abduction (protraction), downward rotation, depression
agonists of scapula abduction
pectoralis minor, serratus anterior
agonists of scapula adduction
middle trapezius and rhomboids
agonists of scapula elevation
levator scapula, upper trapezius, rhomboid
agonists of scapula depression
lower trapezius, pectoralis minor
