A

Painful condition secondary to abnormal calcification within a muscle belly.

What are the usually causes?

A
  • Precipitated by direct trauma that results in hematoma, and subsequent calcification of the muscle.
  • early mobilization and stretching
  • aggressive physical therapy following trauma to muscle

When is surgery indicated?

A
  • only in patients with nonhereditary myositis ossificans, and only after maturation
  • Lesion mechanically interferes with joint movement or impinge nerve.
