what is National disability insurance scheme
the NDIS is the national disability insurance scheme that provides service and support for people with permanent, significant disabilities, and their families and carers.
* funded by th federal and state/territory goverment
* the NDIS works to assist individuals with disabilities to live an ordinary life
through the individualism plan, the NDIS assists participants to:
- access mainstream services and supports - healthcare, education, public housing, legal help or aged care.
- access community services and supports - sport clubs, community groups, libraries or charities. Many individuals wish to be socially connected by accessing services ad supports within the community.
- maintain informal support arrangements - helps that people get from their family/friends. basically it helps the people who care for someone with disblilties with things such as if a helper doesn’t have a car, NDIS can take the helper and the disabled person to the hospital.
what is the eligiabilty criteria for NDIS
- to be eligible, individuals should be under 65 when applying and a person must meet the age, residency and disability requirements.

- each participants in the NDIS recieves an individualised plan, which means that only nessarcary funds are spent on each person can access the NDIS and experience improved health outcomes.

the NDIS improves access to health services for people with significant, life-long disabilities.

- those who require the NDIS do not have to pay more towards funding it than those who don’t
