A
  • Trick treaties: Supplying the Indians with alcohol before getting them to sign away their birthright was a common tactic, giving them treaties they didn’t understand
  • 1887 the Dawes Act: attempted to regulate NAs by allotting reservation land to the Indians. It was an attempt to eradicate traditional tribal ownership and instill the concept of private property among the Natives. -left them vulnerable to losing land
  • Between 1887 and 1934 Indians lost 86 million of the original 136 million acres granted by the Dawes Act.
