Q

How is ADIRU alignment affected by aircraft movement?

A

Aircraft must be parked

Alignment stops if an ADIRU detects motion during alignment. Then continues and completes 10 minutes after motion stops.

Present position (Lat and Long) must be entered on the CDU POS INIT page to complete alignment.

Q

When is ILS frequency change inhibited?

A
  1. On initial takeoff, inhibited for 10 minutes to prevent clutter on PFD.

16
Q

Describe FMC position and the radio position updates.

A

Calculated from ADIRU inertial position updates using GPS and Nav radios.
When receiving reliable GPS data, the primary mode of navigation uses a GPS updated FMC position.
If GPS not available, FMC position updates using navigation radios.

17
Q

Is other DME position update available if both VOR’s are manually tuned?

A

Manually selecting VOR frequencies or identifiers precludes the FMC from auto tuning other VOR/DME frequencies for position updating but FMC continues to tune DME-DME pairs for position updating.

18
Q

What are the indications on the CDU’s when the selected FMC fails (Primary)?

A

EICAS message FMC LEFT, RIGHT displays.

On ground: scratchpad message SINGLE FMC L, R OPERATION.

In flight: scratchpad message SINGLE FMC L, R OPERATION only on one CDU. Scratchpad message TIMEOUT-RESELECT displays on the CDU with the inoperative FMC.

19
Q

Which CDU pages are available in Alternate navigation?

A

ALTN NAV LEGS, ALTN NAV PROG, ALTN NAV RAD.

20
Q

Describe adding waypoints in alternate navigation.

A

CDU’s don’t have a performance or Nav database, instead they copy the active route from the FMC.

If new waypoints are to be added in ALTN MODE, they must be entered by latitude and longitude.

21
Q

Describe alternate navigation radio tuning.

A

Auto tune is not available.

Radios must be manually tuned on each CDU in alternate navigation.

22
Q

Which ND modes can provide TCAS traffic symbols?

A

MAP (expanded), MAP (Centre), VOR (expanded), APP (expanded)

23
Q

When will TCAS issue an RA?

A

Aircraft will enter a conflict airspace within approx 20-30 seconds.

No RA below 1000 feet.

24
Q

What is “Proximate Traffic” and when is it displayed?

A

Another aircraft is neither RA or TA but within 6nm plus 1200 feet vertically.

25
Q

Where and how is vertical guidance displayed for an RA?

A

When TCAS predicts an RA, TCAS PFD vertical guidance is displayed for a traffic avoidance manoeuvre to ensure vertical separation.

  • TCAS voice annunciation sounds.
  • TCAS PFD vertical guidance displayed.
  • TCAS red message TRAFFIC displayed on ND.
26
Q

Describe obstacle and terrain alert priority.

A

Obstacle higher priority than terrain.

27
Q

Which system scans and provides predictive wind shear alerts?

A

Predictive Windshear Alerting System (PWS) in weather radar.

28
Q

When will the weather radar begin scanning for wind shear during take off?

A

When engine thrust lever 2 or 3 is in takeoff range whether weather radar is selected or not.

29
Q

During landing, when will weather radar begin scanning for windshear?

A

Weather radar begins scanning for windshear below 2300 Feet RA.
PWS alerts enabled below 1200 feet RA.

30
Q

Describe detection for immediate windshear.

A

Provided when and excessive downdraft or tailwind is occurring during take off, approach, and landing.

31
Q

Describe bank angle alert values.

A

Voice alert BANK ANGLE sounds if bank angle exceeds 35, 40 and 45 degrees.

32
Q

Which EFIS MINIMUM setting is used for GPWS call?

A

Captains EFIS control panel.

33
Q

How is specific radio position update inhibited?

A

NAV RAD, page 2, disable radio update.

34
Q

When will the ground crew call horn sound for the IRS system?

A

When any IRS selector is left on and lost AC power.
