What was the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda and when was it created?
A
- 13 March 1933
- Led by Joseph Goebbels
- Used a wide range of techniques to persuade the German people of the Nazi mission

How were newspapers used?
A
- Controlled through the Reich Press Chamber
- They closed existing papers and by 1939 owned 2/3 of the papers
- They published their own papers like Der Sturmer
- Content was strictly controlled and censored
- Journalists and editor had to join the Reich Association of the Press and were told what they could and couldn’t write about

How were radios used?
A
- All national and local radio stations were controlled by the Reich Radio Company
- The Nazis made cheap radio sets - People Receivers
- 1.5 million Peoples Receivers were made in 1933
- 70% had a radio in their home by 1939

How were posters used?
A
- Posters were put up in all towns and villages
- They often portrayed Hitler as god-like
- Men and Women were always Aryan (blond hair and blue eyes)

How were rallies used?
A
- The Nazis used rallies to show their strength
- The annual rally at Nuremburg was the largest. In 1934, over 250,000 people attended

How was culture used?
A
- The Reich Culture Chamber supervised and regulated all culture, including art, theatre, literature and architecture
- Aryan strength was promoted
- Traditional German culture was deemed superior and American pop culture like jazz was discouraged

How were films used?
A
- Controlled through the Reich Film Chamber
- They tried to limit foreign films coming in to Germany, so only German films were shown
- by 1939, 2/3 of all films were paid for by the state, showing Hitler to be great or that criticised the Jewish people

- In 1936, The Olympics games were held in Berlin
- Swastikas covered Berlin
- The Games promoted Aryan superiority
- Exception was Jesse Owens
