When was the Munich Putsch and what was it?
8 November 1923
This was an unsuccessful attempt by Hitler to take over power in Munich. It ended in 16 Nazi’s dead, Hitler jailed and the party banned for 2 years

Hitler’s book that he wrote in jail about his political views
What did the Great Depression lead to for the Nazi party?
A growth in popularity and people turning to them due to the unemployment and depression

An ex-soldier with a talent for public speaking, he was portrayed as god-like and his right-wing views about race formed the backbone of the party

He was head of propaganda and spread it by using newspapers, film and radio

He was the leader of the SA, which was 400,000 strong, which was like the personal army of the Nazi’s
What was Heinrich Himmler’s role?
He created an elite force of soldiers, the SS, who worked alongside the SA. numbered 50,000 in 1933
What was Herman Goring’s role?
He was second in power to Hitler. He would go on to create the Gestapo and command the Luftwaffe (air force)
What things happened that helped the Nazi’s gain power?
- Wall street crash - led to a global Great Depression and it affected Germany badly
- The Weimar government appeared weak and unable to provide any solutions
